Harvest Fellowship of Churches 9th Annual Celebration

As the congregations arrived at the rented facility in Bridgeport, CT, the sounds of the Faith Mountain worship team warming up came through the doors! Once seated, the special “Joint Choir” from Gospel Light and Good News congregations were at the front, warming up their voices for the meeting! And so began our Saturday afternoon at the 9th Celebration of the Harvest Fellowship of Churches, and we were thrilled to be there!

HFC congregations from NYC, ME, MA, and Eastern and Central PA were gathering for this marvelous occasion!
Everyone arrived with an obvious sense of excitement, ready to celebrate Jesus and His had wonderful Presence among His Church. From fourteen HFC congregations the leaders and congregants met, worshipped and honoring the Lord Jesus!

From multiple testimonies of God’s grace and power, we heard examples of the Lord’s gracious work, including conversions and baptisms, congregational growth, and of the miraculous provisions for such ministries as VBS! Five Pastors and one Deacon shared of their congregation’s victories, goals and prayer requests.

Pastor Leonard Burkholder shared about the four Anabaptist Native Fellowship congregations –– located in AZ, NM and Canada –– and the exciting news of growth and outreach ministries taking place among them! And we also enjoyed the presence of about 20 members of the Koinonia Fellowship of Churches, led by Bishop Lawrence Chiles, who drove up from the Philadelphia area! What a joy it was to have these guests worship and celebrate with us and to hear words of encouragement from Bishop Chiles!

Bishop Henry also shared a very challenging message entitled, “Advancing God’s Kingdom: Wake Up, Watch & Pray.” Bishop Henry highlighted the deep sense that many Church leaders are echoing across the nations, which is the high degree of crises taking place across America (both natural and man-made), such that our awareness and sensitivity to Christ’s return must be increased and we intentionally and diligently “Wake up, Watch and Pray!” (Please see Rev. 3:1-2 and Matt. 24:12-13.)

Upon the conclusion of the meeting we all moved to the fellowship hall for a spectacular meal of delicious ethnic foods, topped off with a lovely Anniversary cake, all generously prepared and served by the four local CT congregations: Lighthouse Fellowship Church, Gospel Light Community Church, Beacon Of Light and Good News Christian Church. Delicious!

And as Bishop Henry so often declares, “To God be the glory!”

New England Regional HFC Spiritual Enrichment and Fellowship Day

On Saturday, May 14th, six HFC congregations from around New England drove to Gardiner, ME, with the purpose of gathering at a seventh New England HFC congregation, the Faith Christian Church (FCC). We came to worship, fellowship, learn and participate in the New England HFC Enrichment and Fellowship Day! The meeting was probably one of the largest such gatherings on record, with over 100 adults and children crowding into the lovely fellowship hall of the recently refurbished FCC building (left).

What a joy it was worshipping together under the leadership of Esther Metzler and members of the FCC congregation; to hear an exhortation from Sister Millie regarding 1 Corinthians 12 and serving one another with our spiritual gifts; to receive Bishop Henry’s extended teaching on “Drawing Near to God;” to hear (and celebrate!) thereports from each of the congregations; to be blessed by the special music sung by the members of Pastor Lawum Kayamba’s congregation (right) from Portland, ME, the Disciples International Church; and to eat the delicious meal prepared for us all by the FCC members under the direction of Dale and Betty Morrell.

It was equally delightful to fellowship with such a variety of nationalities (Chinese, Congolese, Hispanic, African American and Anglos), knowing that we all have the same Lord and Redeemer and we all share the same faith.

All of these aspects of the Day were possible because of the service and labor of many! We offer a very special “Thank You,” however, to Pastor Glenn Metzler for inviting us to the FCC location and for organizing the event with such excellence!

We also want to thank Bishop Henry and Millie for all they did in making this day such a blessing. After all, they had to drive the greatest distance (10 hours each way!), they prepared the spiritual input for our hearts and minds, and they strongly encouraged us in our faith and in the Lord Jesus Christ. As previously mentioned, Bishop Henry shared on the importance of our “drawing near to God” regularly and with intentionality.  He highlighted the wonderful benefits to our lives that this spiritual discipline brings.  His message was a timely and significant exhortation for each of us, for which we express our sincere gratitude!

Finally, the annoucement was made regarding the upcoming Ninth Annual HFC Anniversary Celebration which will be held in teh Bridgeport, CT area on Saturday, October 22, 2011.  We hope everyone will make a special effort to attend this event!

(Note: Please see the ‘Photo Gallery’ for additional pictures of this event!)

ALL  GLORY  TO  GOD!

In the love of Christ Jesus,

Darrell Minnich

LIGHTHOUSE FELLOWSHIP CHURCH CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY

After a day of heavy rain and wind, the sun broke through the clouds on Sunday, April 17, and spread its warmth on members of Lighthouse Fellowship Church as they joyfully gathered to celebrate one year as a congregation. img_2392-copyThe Son, Jesus, also shone His glory on the congregation as they worshiped and testified to God’s faithfulness over the past year.  Being Palm Sunday, Nancy Eldredge, wife of Elder Tom Eldredge, assisted by her son Daniel, led in a meaningful worship reflecting on the events of Passion Week through a reading, Scripture, and songs. The children of the congregation, joined her in leading this worship celebration.

img_2397-copyPastor Hector and Jennie Muñiz, (left), expressed gratitude to the Lord for His leading in the formation and development of the congregation. Pastor Hector acknowledged that in the natural realm he resisted the call to be a pastor. Often the responsibilities seem beyond his ability. However, both he and Jennie have found God’s grace sufficient to meet every need. They took time to acknowledge individuals and congregations that have been a source of blessing and encouragement to them. Many of those individuals, along with members of other HFC congregations in Connecticut, were present. Over 100 persons came to worship and celebrate this special occasion. The congregation currently meets for worship at the Southend Community Center in Bridgeport.

A choir from Pivot Ministries, a local men’s rehabilitation ministry, which Pastor Hector is vitally involved with, presented very beautiful worship in song. The “Castro sisters”, blended their voices in beautiful harmony giving praise to God.

img_2411During the service, Pastor Hector called members forward who were part of the original core group a year ago. That group (some pictured to the left) numbered around twelve. Today, approximately twenty five to thirty are part of the fellowship. img_2426Another highlight of the service was the installation of Norma Castro (at right) as the first Deaconess for the congregation. Pastor Hector presented her with a certificate certifying her role as deaconess. Norma has been faithfully serving the congregation from the beginning, often working behind the scenes, always sensitive to the needs of Pastor Hector and Jennie and the congregation. She is a school teacher by profession. She testified that while she received a number of certificates and diplomas in her life, the call of the Lord and the church, along with this certificate, is the most meaningful in her life.

Bishop Henry and Millie were invited to give words of encouragement at the beginning of the service. They affirmed the ministry and challenged the congregation to have a growing relationship with the Lord and to put their full trust in Him. Henry concluded the day with a sermon entitled, “God’s Grace: The Motivation for Christian Service,” with his text taken from Colossians 1:1-8.   Henry shared how so many pastors and leaders today experience “burnout” because they depend on self-effort rather than the “oil” of God’s grace.   The church at Colossae, however, was effective and motivated in their ministry because “they understood God’s grace in all its truth.” As we understand God’s grace and apply it to our life, we will also be fully committed and grateful to serve. Grace will also help us see people through the eyes of Christ. Several people then responded to Bishop Henry’s invitation for a special prayer of recommitment to total dependence on God’s grace.

After the 2½ hour service, everyone was invited to stay for a meal where an abundance of delicious food was provided! Everyone went home blessed andimg_2433 encouraged by the clear evidence of God’s presence and work. Lighthouse Fellowship Church truly desires to be a bright light to the city of Bridgeport, and wherever God calls them. We are very thankful to have this congregation and ministry as a vital part of Harvest Fellowship of Churches.

GOOD NEWS CHRISTIAN CHURCH CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY

img_2151-copy-resizedMembers from Good News Christian Church eagerly anticipated their 1st anniversary celebration. They gathered early to arrange and decorate their meeting place facility. To accommodate all the visitors, they also cooked a lot of delicious food. Members and friends from HFC congregations in Connecticut as well as some members from local congregations joined with the congregation for this special event. Many newcomers from the local neighborhood responded to invitations from members and came to the church for the first time. Several said they would return. Around 255 people, including 31 children, packed into the basement fellowship hall of the Church of the Holy Nativity, the weekly meeting place for the congregation.

The celebratory worship service (left) included special numbers by the Gospel Light Community Church’s Gospel Choir and the Good News Worship Team.  Bishop Henry and Millie were invited to open the service with a brief exhortation. A highlight of the service was the personal testimonies of six men who just returned from a weekend Spiritual Encounter with Pastor Miller. Four of them were new believers who never gave a public testimony before. They testified of a spiritual transformation that took place in their lives. Pastor Miller gave enthusiastic leadership to the service. He, along with his wife Andrea, gave words of blessing and affirmation to many people and groups who have faithfully supported them in their new ministry. All were very blessed by the powerful message given by Bishop Lawrence Chiles (right) of Koinonia Fellowship of Churches who attended along with his wife Nereida. The title of his sermon was, “Onward Ever: Backward Never.” His text was from Joshua 3:1-8. He challengedeveryoneimg_2194-resized to keep their eyes on the “ark of the covenant”, honor and respect leaders, and reach out in creative ways. Pastor Pedro Vazquez of Gospel Light Community Church, Bridgeport, CT, gave closing words of blessing and affirmation to the Millers and the congregation. And finally, an amazing array of delicious food was served to everyone!

Bishop Henry noted in his opening remarks that it was on March 29, 2009, that Millie and he met with Pastor Jim and img_2160-copy-copy-resizedAndrea and Pastor Pedro and Amy Vazquez on a Saturday morning in the Bronx for breakfast. Later they took a walk in the neighborhood where Pastor Miller explained how God had called them to that specific area even though they did not have any formal contacts at that point. The Millers moved into the neighborhood in August of 2009. On March 29, 2010, exactly one year later after that breakfast meeting, the congregation held their opening celebration with around 20 persons in the core group at that time. Now, one year later, around sixty attend the congregation on a weekly basis. We give glory to Jesus for the new life in Christ that is coming forth in the Bronx. The Miller’s are extremely blessed and encouraged by the spiritual commitment and enthusiasm of the members.

Please continue to pray for the congregation as they move into their second year of ministry.  Two of the men in the church told me, “We’re going back to the streets to bring more people in!”  Pray for multitudes of lives to be touched by the Gospel and for more strong spiritual leaders to be raised up to care for the needs of the congregation. Pray that God will increasingly bless them financially to carry out the ministry of the congregation. To God be the glory!

HFC Eighth Annual Meeting — October, 2010

Leaders Converge in Bridgeport, CT for Eighth Annual Celebration “Advancing God’s Kingdom: Drawing Near to God” was the theme for the 8th Annual HFC Celebration of Leaders as they gathered in Bridgeport, CT on Saturday, Oct. 23rd. Harvest Fellowship of Churches is now a group of 21 churches that includes 4 churches from the Anabaptist Native Fellowship (comprised of the Hopi, Navajo and Ojibwa Indian tribes).
The event packed the Iglesia de Cristo AG church as cars, vans, and even a charted bus filled with participants, came for the afternoon celebration! People drove from the great southwest and Canada; special guests arrived from India and Cambodia; it was a virtual ‘smorgasbord’ of worship, testimonies, reports of new works, and various special music presentations in three different languages. The Indonesian children’s dance, for example, erupted the house into joy and celebration!
The Beacon of Light Community Church Choir got the event off to a great start, followed by the welcome and prayer of Pastor Randolph Stanley. After congregational worship, directed by Daniel Miller and Daniel Smiley, Glenn Metzler moderated a few testimonies. Three new church plants in 2010 were introduced; Good News Christian Church, Bronx, NY led by Pastor James & Andrea Miller, Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Bridgeport, CT led by Pastor Hector & Jennie Muñiz, and Disciples International Christian Church in Portland, ME led by Pastor Lawum & Suzanne Kayamba.
Bishop Henry Buckwalter brought the keynote address, sharing from the text of Luke 7:36-50. The message highlighted five key points: 1) Draw near with pure motives, 2) approach Jesus with humility and brokenness, 3) be aware that God knows our heart, 4) be thankful for God’s mercy and forgiveness, and 5) demonstrate our love with faith and action. Henry concluded the message with challenging the leaders to draw near to God!
Leonard Burkholder introduced testimonies from Kevin Smythe, Kilat Lembong, John & Janet Hannah and Pastor Smiley. E. Daniel Martin shared briefly on the newly formed Kingdom Life Network of Christian Leaders and also introduced members of Koinonia Fellowship of Churches, PTL-India leaders, and Pastor Ouk Bunthoeun from the Cambodian Churches Association. A wonderful meal concluded the celebration.
